Julie is a graduate of the counseling program at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary. She completed her undergraduate degree at Kuyper College in Youth Ministry. Much of her clinical training occurred here at Roots where she developed her clinical skillset as an intern before joining the team as a clinical therapist. Julie has experience working with adolescents and adults with depression, anxiety, personality disorders, autism, and trauma and attachment disorders.
Julie and her husband, along with their five children, have long been passionate about working with adolescents and serving them through various ministries – Julie previously developed an inclusion team at a local church aimed to involve individuals of all ability levels and capacities by creating service and participation opportunities to allow them to cohesively join the church community. Julie believes all people have inherent worth and value; she is passionate about helping others find their strengths as they work toward growth and healing. In this manner, Julie sees the great value of being part of an interdisciplinary clinical team to best serve patients and families through a collaborative approach.
